Nishat Bagh, meaning "Garden of Joy" or "Garden of Delight," is a renowned Mughal garden situated on the eastern bank of Dal Lake in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.
Design & Architecture
Nishat Bagh is an adaptation of the traditional Persian Chahar Bagh (four-part garden) layout, modified to suit the sloping topography of the Kashmir Valley. Instead of the typical central water source, the garden features a linear water channel that descends from the higher elevations, creating a cascading effect through its terraces.

Historical Anecdote
A popular tale recounts Emperor Shah Jahan's admiration for Nishat Bagh's beauty. It's said that upon visiting, he expressed his desire for the garden to Asif Khan. When Asif Khan didn't offer it, the emperor, in a display of imperial authority, ordered the water supply to be cut off. However, a loyal servant later restored the water flow, and Shah Jahan, impressed by this act of devotion, allowed the garden to flourish once more.

Nishat Bagh remains a testament to the Mughal era's architectural brilliance and continues to be a cherished destination for tourists and locals alike
